Good News: I have been doing better reading my Bible

Bad News: I have sucked at keeping this thing updated.

Oh well, every day is a new chance to get better.  I read the first chapter of the book of Colossians this morning.  This really isn't one of the most studied or quoted books in the new testament, but as I read I realized that Paul prayed for and suffered for this church in Colossus just as much as any other.  Verse 6 gave me a great new perspective on the power that lies in the message of the gospel itself.  Paul reminds the church that the gospel has been bearing fruit wherever it went and had been doing so without cessation.  This was significant to me because I too often put stock in men to spread the word of God and do not give enough credit to the Holy Spirit who has always given the gospel its power and who will continue to do so until the end of this earth.  I, as a man, can do so much, but the power of the gospel surpasses anything I can imagine and will always do God's work in this world whether or not I am part of it.  Acknowledging this power makes me all the more eager to join in the eternal movement of the Christian church and to use what power I DO have to build God's kingdom.

Today I read Philippians 2.  I was amazed as God met me where I am yet again.  I have been struggling lately to find the right attitude for living especially among those who are unbelievers.  Who better to model my attitude after, then, than Jesus Christ himself?  Jesus, although equal with God, humbled himself and not only became man, but became a man who lived his life as a servant to all men.  He thought himself better than no man, even though he is eternal and has since been lifted above all other names!  If Jesus, who was fully God, can humble himself so much, I should be able to put aside my selfish ambitions and live a life that is characterized by service and humility.  Paul also encouraged the church in Philippi to be like minded and to love each other rather than argue amongst themselves.  Going to school in a place where I feel like my faith is under attack daily, I too often put up my guard through arguments and self-righteousness.  I must remember that my shield is one of faith in the Jesus who loves when love doesn't make sense. How great is that love that I get to experience every day and that I have the responsibility to show to others.

Ok, so I'm going to start using this as an online Bible journal, basically where I am going to keep my thoughts on what I read every day (hopefully).  Anyway, it's pretty much just for my own use, but if anybody wants to add something, comments are welcomed.
